  • 2 lbs lean ground chicken
  • 2 (15oz) cans of kidney beans, drained
  • 2 (15oz) cans diced fire-roasted tomatoes
  • 1 (15oz) can low-sodium chicken broth
  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons adobo sauce from canned chipotle chiles in adobo sauce
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tbsps chili powder
  • 1 tbsp sea salt
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsps dried oregano
  • 2 tsps ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • for serving: shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, sliced green onions, and/or avocado slices

How to make Ground Chicken & Sweet Potato Chili (Slow Cooker)?

Step 1:

Place all ingredients except for the “for serving” stuff in the bowl of your slow cooker (so ground chicken through cinnamon). Cover with the lid, then cook on low for about 8 hours, stirring every once in a while if you can.

Step 2:

Divide chili between bowls, top with shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, sliced green onions, and/or avocado slices!

I was skeptical at first about this sweet potato chili. But wow. This Ground Chicken & Sweet Potato Chili might be the best I’ve made in my slow cooker.

I tossed in homegrown jalapeños, a medley of beans, and even added a handful of corn at the end. It came out thick and full of flavor. My husband raved about it, and I didn’t miss the beef at all! I paired it with cornbread muffins, avocado lime slaw, and a side of roasted garlic green beans.

For dessert? Those Delicious Toffee Shortbread Cookies, because after a bowl of chili, you deserve something sweet.
