Update: Did y’all notice that the title of the post used to say “my bread favorite ever”…?! Whoops! And it’s only Tuesday… this is going to be a rough week ha!
Before we get to my favorite focaccia ever… I need to admit something to the internet.
I do NOT like matcha… I was trying to be cool and trendy the other day by ordering my FIRST matcha latte.
Verdict… it was disgusting.
Seriously, it tasted like I was drinking dirt and leaves and butter? I don’t even know how to describe it because my taste buds were so freaked out. The list of things that I don’t like to eat/drink is very very small, like I am NOT a picky eater but matcha is DEFINITELY going on that list… I really do not understand the whole matcha craze. Do you like matcha?! Did I just get a bad latte?! Do you not like it either?! TALK TO ME.
Now that we have that out of the way… let’s discuss my favorite homemade focaccia recipe!
Guys, IT’S SO EASY.
You know how some bread recipes are ridiculously complicated and involve like DAYS of rising time? Well, this bad boy only requires 10 ingredients and about 5 hours. The hardest part is waiting for the first rise… which I know is annoying but if you want good bread… you gotta wait for some rising! It’s totally worth it though, I promise!
Why do I love this bread so much? Well, like I said above, it’s crazy easy! You just whip up the dough, let it rise, push it into a 9×13 baking dish, let it rise a little longer then bake and BOOM. Delicious dense yet fluffy bread that’s slightly sweet but stuffed with so much rosemary. Slice it up then dip it in some olive oil and omggggg. It’s seriously heaven!
OH it’s also makes for fabulous panini bread! These pear, bacon, and brie paninis would totally taste amazing with this focaccia 🙂
Ingredients
- 1 packet (1/4oz) active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil + extra for greasing
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1-2 tablespoons water, if needed
Instructions
- In the bowl of an electric stand mixer fitted with the dough hook attachment, add warm water and yeast. Let sit about 5 minutes or until mixture starts to foam.
- Mix in honey, egg, rosemary, salt, garlic powder, and vegetable oil. Add in flour, one cup at a time, mix/knead until it forms a sticky dough ball. You might need to add 1-2 tablespoons of water if the mixture is too dry.
- Place dough ball in a large greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, then let rest in a warm place for about 4 hours to let rise.
- Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a 9x13 baking dish. Push risen dough into said dish then let rise another 30 minutes.
- Bake dough for 25-35 minutes or until golden. Slice and dip in olive oil or eat how you like!
Notes
Prep time includes rising times x 2!
