Hello Cinco de Mayo!!!!!!!! Are y’all doing anything fun tonight? You have to be! Cinco de Mayo only falls on a Friday or Saturday three times in the next nine years including this year so you BETTER make the most of it! Which means you totally need to include these margaritas in your plans 🙂
I’m grabbing a happy hour margarita with some girlfriends after work then heading to my Dad’s birthday celebration, where many games will be played and many alcoholic beverages will be consumed! I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this on here before but I LOVE GAMES. All my real life friends are currently rolling their eyes reading this. Okay okay… I may like games a little too much and I might be slightly competitive… but seriously, why play if you don’t aim to win!? You know what else I like a little too much?
MARGARITAS and TACOS. duh.
I made these guava margaritas to enjoy with my chipotle jackfruit tacos from Tuesday and it was a FINE COMBINATION if I do say so myself! I even ended up drinking two margaritas (#notcomplaining) because at first, I added lime zest to the chili powder sea salt rim mixture. It tasted great but looked like there was grass on the rim of the marg in photographs ha! Next time, using some Trader Joe’s chili lime seasoning might be the key.
SO remember how in this post I talked about how I got blog recipe inspirations while in Chicago? Well this is one of those recipes! I had dinner at Tortoise Supper Club the first night I was in Chicago and had this AMAZING guava margarita! I think it was fate because I usually order wine or beer with dinner but that guava margarita just spoke to me! It was just so fresh and crisp with slight bites of sweet, salty, spicy, and smoky flavors. Now they used a mix of mezcal and silver tequila so feel free to try that too!
What’s the difference between mezcal and tequila you ask? Well I can tell you! In a nutshell, tequila is only made from blue agave where mezcal can be made from any of about thirty different varieties of agave (including blue agave). Mezcal tends to taste sweeter than tequila but also has a unique and distinctive smoky flavor to it. There are also differences in how and where they are made but I’m not going to go into that because I care mainly about flavors lol. However, if you are super curious about those topics then you can click here and read 🙂
Last discussion point before the recipe… GUAVA. Since we talked about fruit babies on Tuesday let’s keep it going here… to me, guava tastes like a pear and strawberry had a fruit baby. Kinda weird but OH SO GOOD. Guava nectar soothes the tequila bite very nicely! It also has tons of health benefits which you can read about here! Or you can just scroll down to the recipe and make a delicious margarita that probably counteracts all health benefits. Your pick.
Recipe can easily be halved to make a single marg or double, tripled, etc to make lots of margs! I'd go with the latter 😉
Ingredients
- chili powder and flakey sea salt
- 2 lime wedges
- ice cubes
- 3 oz silver tequila
- 2 oz triple sec
- 1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
- 5 oz guava nectar
Instructions
- Place equal amounts of chili powder and sea salt (1-2 teaspoons each) on a small plate, mix using a fork until evenly distributed. Rub rims of two glasses with a lime wedge. Dip rims of glasses in chili sea salt mixture to coat then add ice to each glass. Set aside.
- Fill a cocktail shaker with several pieces of ice then add tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and guava nectar. Place the lid and cap on the shaker then shake for about 30 seconds or until the outside feels cold. Remove the cap then strain the margarita mixture evenly between the two glasses. Garnish each glass with a lime wedge (unlike my photographs because I forgot... fail) then DRINK.
So did y’all notice that I totally forgot to garnish my guava margaritas with a lime wedge? YUP. Total fail right there. Oh well. Just please try and make yours prettier.
Have the BEST Cinco de Mayo or just plain ole’ Friday. See you back here next week! K bye.
P.S. If you try this recipe, let me know! Leave a comment or tag a photo #appetitesanonymous on instagram!! I’d love to see your guava margaritas in action. Peace, friends!
