Ingredients

  • 6 slices thick sourdough bread
  • medium-sized heart shaped cookie cutter optional but festive
  • 2 large eggs at room temp
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsps granulated white sugar
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp baking powder
  • healthy pinch salt
  • cooking spray
  • 1 (7.7oz) container of nutella
  • 1 cup strawberries hulled and sliced
  • other toppings: chocolate syrup and powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Cut your sourdough slices into heart shapes using a heart shaped cookie cutter or a knife/scissors (or skip all together if you aren’t feeling that festive or motivated ha).
  2. Whisk together milk, eggs, and vanilla in a shallow medium bowl until smooth. Next, whisk in the sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined and no lumps remain.
  3. Coat a large nonstick skillet with cooking spray then heat over medium-low heat. Once the skillet is hot, dunk one bread slice in the batter from step two, ensuring they're completely covered in the mixture then place it in the hot pan. Continue for all bread slices then fry them for about 2 minutes on side one then flip and fry for another 1-2 minutes on the second side, or until golden.
  4. Add one french toast heart to a plate. Using a butter knife, spread nutella over top like you’re frosting a cooking then top the nutella with 2-4 sliced strawberries. Then add the second piece of french toast and continue the process until you have a stack of three heart french toasts ending with a spread of nutella and sliced strawberries on top. Repeat this process with the second half of the french toast.
  5. Top stacks with a drizzle of chocolate syrup and a sprinkle of powdered sugar then devour!
