Okay, I know these nutella and strawberry loaded french toast stacks look fancy but I promise they are very easy to make! Clearly, this recipe is aimed at a Valentine’s Day Brunch since the big day is this Sunday so grab you some bread, eggs, milk, strawberries, nutella, chocolate syrup, and a heart-shaped cookie cutter and let’s get to work!
Now, I told you this wasn’t a hard recipe and I wasn’t lying! I would say the only “hard” part is cutting your bread slices into heart shapes. I highly recommend using a heart shaped cookie cutter for this or you can skip this step entirely (it doesn’t change the taste ha). Next, we dunk the bread into a very standard french toast batter (eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, flour, baking powder, salt, etc) then fry them up! Next steps are the fun ones… smother the top of the french toast heart with nutella and strawberry slices then continue until you have a stack of three! Finish the stacks off with a drizzle of chocolate syrup and some powered sugar and viola! Fancy brunch that really isn’t that fancy 😘😘
Nutella & strawberry french toast stacks recipe time:
nutella & strawberry french toast stacks
Ingredients
- 6 slices thick sourdough bread
- medium-sized heart shaped cookie cutter optional but festive
- 2 large eggs at room temp
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 tbsps granulated white sugar
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- ¼ tsp baking powder
- healthy pinch salt
- cooking spray
- 1 (7.7oz) container of nutella
- 1 cup strawberries hulled and sliced
- other toppings: chocolate syrup and powdered sugar
Instructions
- Cut your sourdough slices into heart shapes using a heart shaped cookie cutter or a knife/scissors (or skip all together if you aren’t feeling that festive or motivated ha).
- Whisk together milk, eggs, and vanilla in a shallow medium bowl until smooth. Next, whisk in the sugar, flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined and no lumps remain.
- Coat a large nonstick skillet with cooking spray then heat over medium-low heat. Once the skillet is hot, dunk one bread slice in the batter from step two, ensuring they’re completely covered in the mixture then place it in the hot pan. Continue for all bread slices then fry them for about 2 minutes on side one then flip and fry for another 1-2 minutes on the second side, or until golden.
- Add one french toast heart to a plate. Using a butter knife, spread nutella over top like you’re frosting a cooking then top the nutella with 2-4 sliced strawberries. Then add the second piece of french toast and continue the process until you have a stack of three heart french toasts ending with a spread of nutella and sliced strawberries on top. Repeat this process with the second half of the french toast.
- Top stacks with a drizzle of chocolate syrup and a sprinkle of powdered sugar then devour!
