Nothing fancy here today, just a really simple recipe that creates a delicious snack!!!! Take all those apples you have hanging around your kitchen (that are almost going bad) and make this applesauce!
Seriously though… This recipe is so so so so easy!! If I would have known how easy it was to make applesauce before, I don’t think I ever would have bought it at the grocery store. I don’t know about y’all but as a kid, I would inhale me some Mott’s cinnamon applesauce like it was nobody’s business! These days I don’t eat applesauce much by itself but I use it all the time as a baking substitute. After tasting the applesauce I made, this is definitely going to be a new recurring homemade snack for me!
Though this recipe is super crazy easy, I did do a lot of work to make it happen!
Things I did to make this applesauce happen:
1. Drive to Wasem Fruit Farm in Milan, Michigan.
2. Walk around for miles in the cold watching Tom Brady pick apples… Story: the apples were too high for me to reach so I chose which apples we wanted then Tom grabbed them while I held the bag. Teamwork!
3. Walk our apples (and pumpkins) about one mile back to the car…
4. Peel apples for about 20 minutes. This felt like FOREVER. It really wasn’t but you know…
5. Core and chop apples for about 10 minutes. Place all applesauce ingredients in a large pot.
6. Wait 25 minutes for apples to cook/soften and get ready to be pureed!
7. Puree apples, sugar, and spices into delicious brown sugar cinnamon-y goodness.
8. Take a bajillion pictures of said amazing applesauce.
9. Eat APPLESAUCE.
10. Eat more applesauce.
Literally the only thing I didn’t do to make this applesauce happen was grow the apples… Next time people, next time! As you can tell from when I got these apples, I made this a long time ago! But I’ve already made this same recipe three times since! Yum.
Homemade applesauce recipe:
homemade applesauce
Ingredients
- 6 lbs apples; peeled cored and chopped
- 1 cup water
- juice of 1 lemon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a large pot then mix to coat apples with spices. Cook over medium heat for 25 minutes.
- Remove pot from heat then puree mixture using an immersion blender until applesauce reaches your desired consistency.
- Add more brown sugar and/or cinnamon to taste then enjoy!
Recipe Notes
+ Store applesauce in the fridge. Mine only lasted one week… Because I ate it all so quickly!
+ If making applesauce to use as a baking substitute, skip the brown sugar and cinnamon to make plain applesauce!
Applesauce for days!! To go on and in everything your little heart desires. Or you could just devour it by itself like I did 😉 May your Friday be magical!!

My parents have one because we used to make apple butter with all of my extended family. It works great, but it’s super sharp so you have to be careful! My aunt had an accident with one that landed her in the ER 🙁
